Birds of Gull Island - Tufted Puffins
Detail below..
The Tufted Puffin (Fratercula cirrhata) nests in burrows hollowed into the sparse patches of turf found on Gull Island's largest rock. Like the Murre and Horned Puffin, they raise only one chick. The parent birds will faithfully take turns incubating the egg and make many trips to the deep water surrounding the island - flying beneath the sea after sand lances that they carry sideways in their colorful orange red beaks.
