Birds of Gull Island - Common Murres

Detail below..

“ Murres do not build any nest. They lay a single egg, shaped like a light bulb, and incubate it by resting the egg on their legs, and cover it penguin style, standing while keeping the egg warm. As crowded as it becomes, neighbors bicker over space. Landing and taking off could be a disaster, if it weren't for the unusual shape of the egg. Disturbed eggs roll in an arch, instead of rolling over the side into the sea. ”
