Birds of Gull Island - Black-legged Kittiwake
Detail below..
The Black-legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla) which nest on Gull Island number in the thousands. Along with the Common Murres make up the bulk of the bird population. Black-legged kittiwakes are one of a few gulls that actually work to get food. Unlike their larger cousins, the Glaucous-winged Gull, Kittiwakes plunge dive for sand lances and other schooling fish, making up 95% of their yearly diet scavenging during lean times. They often feed far offshore.
