Dance Of The Deer
Fierce arctic winds blow snow across seemingly endless tundra. A pole of stones standing long in the lonely land, catch the blowing snow. From a distance these stacked stones look vaguely like the ancient ones that plied them there. It is said the people stacked these stones in lonely places to help raise the spirits of anyone that should find an Inookook. Arctic winds howl endlessly across this frozen snow covered tundra. The ravens calls no longer herald the coming of great herds of caribou, wolves have left this cold expanse of tundra, their footprints fall in shelter of stunted spruce forest hundreds of miles to the south of this endless frozen land. The stone statues stand long and lonely. The song of the drum is no longer carried on bitter arctic winds. The stacked Inookook statues are the only reminder ancient people once lived here to hunt the deer. The dance of the deer is heard no more. There is only wind and blowing snow.
