Song for the Seal

A frigid howling wind batters the rocky shore. Ancient people dance in the dim light of stone seal oil lamps, casting shadows on hard packed earth floor tiled with pieces of slate found along the shore. The people dance, sing, drum, and tell their stories, of a time when seals return to this weathered shore. Dim light of day shines through the smoke hole in the center of the sod-covered roof. Coils of tough seal hide line hang on the drift wood wall, by wooden pegs, the winter has been long. Spring storms assault the shore. The people dance, sing, and drum, in anticipation for the seals return.
